About this opportunity

The City of Duluth's Public Arts Commission is requesting sealed proposals from artists for a public art installation using salvage materials from the historic Rogers Bridge, removed from the Chattahoochee River, with proposals due January 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. EST to the Office of the City Clerk at 3167 Main Street, Duluth, GA 30096. An optional preproposal and site visit meeting is scheduled for November 17, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. EST.

Artists may propose up to three pieces utilizing salvaged bridge materials, including specified I-beam inventory (C 7 beams at 9.8 lbs/ft, S 7 beams at 15 lbs/ft, and S 15 beams at 39 lbs/ft). Design and finish specifications, including paint treatment or rust patina, are at the artist's discretion. The large water pipe formerly on the bridge has been removed from the site and is unavailable for use. The art piece location will not be affected by overhead telecom lines, as they will be relocated underground.

The public proposal opening will occur at 2:01 p.m. EST on January 14, 2022, in the Executive Conference Room on the second floor of City Hall, where submitting artist names will be read aloud. The full Request for Proposal document is available for free download from the Georgia Procurement Registry and the City of Duluth's website. Addendum 1, issued December 2, 2021, provides clarification on materials, site conditions, and design parameters. Questions should be directed to DPAC@duluthga.net. The City has awarded the project to artist Phil Proctor. The source does not disclose contract value, compensation terms, or contract duration.
