About this opportunity

Sarasota County Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources is seeking quotes for a specialized insecticide application project covering 13 park locations across Sarasota, Venice, and Englewood, totaling approximately 137 acres. The procurement involves hiring a licensed applicator to slit-apply Bayer Chipco Choice (or an approved Fipronil alternate) insecticide to athletic fields between March 16th and March 20th, 2026. Contractors must hold a Commercial Applicator License issued by FDACS and demonstrate previous experience with similar services. The application requires precise treatment at a rate of 25 pounds per acre, following specific label directions and the county's Integrated Pest Management Guidelines. Key qualifications include having an on-site employee capable of communicating effectively in English, providing references, and submitting any alternate product proposals by October 29, 2025. The bid response deadline is October 31, 2025, at 2:30 pm, with electronic submissions required through the county's secure procurement portal. Evaluation will focus on the lowest total bid price from responsive and responsible bidders.

The procurement does not specify explicit set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. No incumbent vendors are mentioned in the documentation. The contract includes contingency funds up to 10% of the total bid price, subject to written county approval, with a maximum bid threshold of $50,000. The county will be responsible for marking irrigation heads and areas to be avoided, while the contractor must handle general cleanup post-treatment. The insecticide application targets pest control, specifically focusing on mole crickets and imported fire ants, with the product promising approximately one year of control in specific areas. The contract includes a standard manufacturer's warranty period. Successful bidders will be expected to follow comprehensive environmental and safety guidelines, including avoiding certain chemical compounds and implementing least-toxic alternatives in their pest management approach.
