The facility operates at the base of Abiquiu Dam in Northern New Mexico with outlet works for the Rio Chama.

Bidders must submit a 5% bid bond and hold a current New Mexico Contractor's License with appropriate classifications. A Los Alamos County Business License is also required. Evaluation criteria include accurate submission of required bid documents, cost, and relevant project experience: a minimum of two projects completed within the last two years involving structural steel installation or overhead crane supply and installation, with at least one project performed in a constrained-access industrial or power-generation facility.

Performance and Labor-Materials Bonds equal to 100% of the contract price are due within ten calendar days of Notice of Award. Comprehensive General Liability Insurance ($1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate), Motor Vehicle Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, and Property/Fire/All Risk Insurance are required. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per day apply for failure to meet Substantial Completion (targeted May 17, 2027) and Final Completion (targeted June 17, 2027) dates. Tentative award is December 8, 2026; Notice to Proceed is December 14, 2026. Bids are submitted electronically through the County's Procurement Portal at https://losalamosnm.bonfirehub.com/. Questions are due by the pre-bid conference date.

Opportunity text

Los Alamos County is seeking a qualified Contractor to furnish and install two new overhead hoist cranes that sit on a stationary structure at the Abiquiu Hydroelectric Power Plant. The plant sits at the base of the Abiquiu Dam and utilizes the outlet works where water flows directly into the Rio Chama in Northern New Mexico. The existing cranes are rated approximately two tons each and are inadequate for the lifting requirements associated with operation of the PRV gates. Each crane provides lifting support for one of the two gates, which are not lifted simultaneously. The project will replace the existing cranes with two new cranes; each rated for five tons.
