About this opportunity

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is soliciting electronic bids for 9.8 miles of shoulder repair on Interstate 72 and Interstate 172 in Adams and Pike Counties, with bids due June 12, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. via the iCX (Integrated Contractors Exchange) system. This is a working-day contract funded through National Highway Performance Program (NHPP) construction funds, subject to prevailing wage requirements and federal labor standards.

The scope encompasses HMA surface removal, HMA shoulder resurfacing, HMA shoulder widening at emergency median crossovers, pavement markings, and all associated work to complete the project. The gross project length is 8.98 miles (net 8.48 miles). Contractors must coordinate with IDOT District 6 Bureau of Operations at least 72 hours in advance of work and three weeks prior to implementing traffic control. Ramp closures are limited to daytime operations (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) with a maximum of three closures each. At least one lane in each direction on both highways must remain open to traffic at all times.

The contract must be completed by June 30, 2027, except for off-pavement and cleanup work. The specification incorporates supplemental specifications and recurring special provisions effective January 1, 2026, covering traffic control standards, environmental compliance, concrete and material specifications, and federal-aid contract provisions. Compensation includes bituminous materials cost adjustments based on fluctuations in the Bituminous Price Index when the difference between the index price at letting and the month work is performed exceeds five percent. Costs for anti-strip additives for HMA mixtures with crushed gravel or sandstone coarse aggregate must be included in unit bid prices. Contractors may request a delayed start within ten days after bid opening, subject to Department approval, without extension of the project completion deadline. The contract will be awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.
