About this opportunity

Kent Intermediate School District issued a Request for Proposal for the refurbishment of an Imeco Cooling Tower Model EFC-C-223-4 located at the Educational Service Center building on the East Beltline Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The scope of work encompasses comprehensive cooling tower restoration including removal and disposal of existing PVC drift eliminators, removal and cleaning of the spray distribution system with nozzle replacement, power washing and descaling of the heat transfer coil, mechanical grinding and urethane coating of interior surfaces, installation of new PVC drift eliminators, repair of the air discharge damper assembly, door repairs, installation of new actuators on incoming air dampers, provision of a new exhaust hood, replacement of the cold water basin drain line, addition of a 3-way valve in the boiler room, and disposal of all old materials. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Kent ISD Maintenance Building located at 1655 East Beltline NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Sealed bids were due by 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, with public bid opening scheduled immediately following the submission deadline. The Kent ISD Board was scheduled to consider the award recommendation at its September 17, 2018 board meeting. All materials and workmanship are warranted for two years from completion, and all bids must remain firm for 90 days following the submission deadline.

Kent ISD reserved the right to award based on criteria other than the lowest bid and may have restricted bidding to Michigan-based businesses. Bidders were required to submit proposals accompanied by sworn and notarized statements disclosing any familial relationships with board members or the superintendent pursuant to Michigan Public Act 232 of 2004, and certifying compliance with the Iran Economic Sanctions Act under Michigan Public Act 517 of 2012. All bids must include all delivery charges, unboxing costs, and waste disposal arrangements coordinated with the project coordinator, AJ Gugliotta (616-447-2453, AJG@kentisd.org). The district is not subject to Michigan State or Federal excise taxes. No pricing information or specific award value was specified in the RFP document, though the scope of work and material requirements suggest a moderate-value facility maintenance project requiring specialized HVAC and cooling tower expertise.
