About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Labor, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, is soliciting applications for grants to support the implementation of evidence-based practices that prepare, develop, or enhance educator skills to improve student outcomes. Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, national nonprofit entities with demonstrated records of raising student achievement, the Bureau of Indian Education, and partnerships of these entities with for-profit organizations. Applicants must address one of four absolute priorities: supporting effective teachers, supporting effective principals or school leaders, promoting evidence-based literacy instruction, or advancing meaningful learning opportunities through mathematics instruction. Additionally, competitive preference points (up to 10 points) are available for projects endorsed by governors or state education officials, projects advancing artificial intelligence in education (up to 5 points), and projects expanding Registered Apprenticeships (up to 5 points). Applications are evaluated on a 100-point scale based on project design quality (40 points), management plan quality (25 points), project evaluation and evidence-building quality (25 points), and resource adequacy (10 points). The application deadline is June 1, 2026, with an intergovernmental review deadline of July 31, 2026.

The estimated total available funding is $90 million, with anticipated awards ranging from $1 million to $6 million per project year and an estimated average award of $3.5 million per 36-month performance period. Approximately 25 to 30 grants will be awarded for projects with up to 36 months duration, with potential renewal for an additional 24 months based on demonstrated effectiveness. All grant recipients must provide a minimum of 25 percent cost-sharing from non-Federal sources on an annual basis. Projects will be implemented nationwide across eligible applicants' service areas, with performance measured through tracking of educator effectiveness and student outcomes.
