About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention seeks applications for Research Grants for Preventing Interpersonal Violence and Suicide Among Youth and Young Adults (R01), with an application deadline of July 1, 2026.
Eligible applicants include tribal organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), county and state governments, independent school districts, 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, higher education institutions (public and private), city and township governments, public or Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations, special district governments, and small businesses.
The CDC anticipates awarding approximately $9.6 million across eight grants, with an expected award ceiling of $400,000 per year over a three-year performance period. This funding supports effectiveness research evaluating innovative programs, practices, or policies addressing interpersonal violence and suicide risk among populations experiencing high burden of these issues. Eligible research topics include prevention of child abuse and neglect, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, suicide, and youth violence involving youth and young adults ages 10 to 24 years. Priority analyses examine how approaches affect different populations most impacted by these issues. Innovative approaches are those not yet rigorously evaluated for effectiveness.
Applications must include a completed SF-424 form, PHS 398 Research Plan with specific aims and a 12-page research strategy, budget justification not exceeding $400,000 per year, human subjects protections documentation, and letters of support from collaborative partners. Principal investigators must demonstrate experience and expertise in interpersonal violence or suicide prevention through peer-reviewed publications or prior research grant service. An optional letter of intent is due June 15, 2026. Scientific review applies NIH R01 merit review criteria: significance, investigators, innovation, approach, and environment. Awards are assigned to CFDA 93.136 (Injury Prevention and Control Research and State and Community Based Programs).
