About this opportunity

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is to support an implementation research study to assess optimal strategies for a postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) in pocket (PiP) approach for the prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW). The selected recipient will implement and evaluate a comprehensive strategy to integrate "PEP packs" containing antiretroviral medication for HIV non-occupational PEP, doxycycline for STI PEP, HIV and STI self-test kits, and instruction materials as a component of existing PrEP and STI clinical services. The program targets communities with high rates of HIV diagnoses among disproportionately affected populations, especially Black and Hispanic MSM and TGW.

The funding opportunity (RFA-PS-25-112) will support one award of $4.8 million over 4 years ($1.2 million per year) from September 2025 through August 2029. Study sites must serve at least 3,000 patients annually with a population that is at least 50% Black/Hispanic and 25% MSM/TGW. Letters of intent are due January 19, 2025, and full applications are due February 19, 2025, with an estimated project start date of September 1, 2025. The opportunity is open to various entities including higher education institutions, state/local governments, tribal organizations, and nonprofits.

Synopsis

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support an implementation research study. In this study, optimal strategies will be assessed for a postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) in pocket (PiP) approach for prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among disproportionately affected populations, for example, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW). The recipient will implement and evaluate a comprehensive strategy to integrate PEP packs as a component of existing PrEP and STI clinical services. PEP packs will include a supply of antiretroviral medication for nonoccupational PEP (nPEP), doxycycline for STI PEP (DoxyPEP), HIV and STI self-test kits, and instruction materials. Study clinics should be in communities with high rates of HIV diagnoses among disproportionately affected populations, for example, Black and Hispanic MSM and TGW.
