About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is soliciting applications for cooperative agreements to support breastfeeding implementation, quality improvement, and hospital safety initiatives, with a Notice of Funding Opportunity to be posted on Grants.gov (posted date September 25, 2026).
Eligible applicants include state and territorial health agencies, tribal organizations, county and city governments, school districts, public and private higher education institutions, small businesses, nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), housing authorities, and for-profit organizations. The funding instrument is a cooperative agreement with a performance period of up to five years, with initial awards supporting the first 12-month budget period. Subsequent non-competing continuations are available subject to satisfactory progress and continued federal interest.
The initiative comprises three complementary components: engagement of national, state, and community partners; provision of training and technical assistance to recipients and healthcare organizations for data use, quality improvement, and healthcare referral network support; and direct support to U.S. and territorial maternity hospitals to implement and sustain evidence-based breastfeeding-supportive maternity care practices.
Applications will be evaluated on scientific and technical merit through objective or peer review, subject to fund availability and alignment with CDC program priorities. The program operates under 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards) and requires three-year record retention with extended retention until final audit completion.
This opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.945 (Assistance Programs for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control).
Forecast synopsis
The NOFO will support three complementary components to (1) engage national, state, and community partners; (2) provide training and technical assistance to funded recipients and healthcare organizations to use data, conduct quality improvement, and support healthcare referral networks; and (3) support U.S. and territorial maternity hospitals to safely implement and sustain evidence-based breastfeeding-supportive maternity care.
