About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement to support the development of innovative mathematical models and computational tools focused on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistant organisms (AROs). The primary objectives are to model the spread of pathogens in healthcare settings, predict HAI outbreaks and trends, and assess the effectiveness of intervention strategies. This opportunity, titled "Modeling Infectious Diseases in Healthcare (MInD Healthcare) to Improve Pathogen Prevention and Healthcare Delivery" (CDC-RFA-CK-25-0018), requires recipients to address at least three thematic areas (such as antimicrobial resistance, health equity, or surveillance) and model at least two healthcare-associated pathogens. Eligible applicants include state/local governments, public/private higher education institutions, tribal organizations, and nonprofits, with an optional letter of intent due February 28, 2025, and a full application deadline of April 18, 2025.
The CDC expects to award 4-6 cooperative agreements ranging from $550,000 to $650,000 per budget period, with a total program funding of $16.5-19.5 million over the five-year performance period. The awarded recipients will form the MInD Healthcare Network to collaborate on improving pathogen prevention and healthcare delivery through modeling, while also providing training and workforce development opportunities for early-career modeling professionals.

Update #3 · Latest ·
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support development of innovative and applied mathematical models and computational tools for:Modeling the spread of pathogens in healthcare settings, for example, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistant organisms (AROs).Predicting outbreaks of HAI pathogens and trends in the burden of antimicrobial resistant and susceptible HAIs.Assessing the effectiveness of intervention strategies. This NOFO will increase training and workforce development opportunities about applied public health modeling, including collaboration with public health partners. Models developed by HAI and ARO leaders within the Modeling Infectious Diseases in Healthcare (MInD Healthcare) network could help public health partners make informed decisions and optimize evidence-based prevention strategies to respond to evolving public health needs and emergencies in healthcare settings.
