About this opportunity
The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration is seeking applications to establish pathway training programs that expand the maternal and child health (MCH) workforce through undergraduate education initiatives. Eligible applicants are domestic public or private nonprofit institutions of higher education, including Native American tribal governments and organizations serving as institutions of higher learning. Applicants must recruit and train at least 30 interdisciplinary undergraduate students annually (with a minimum of 10 being medium- or long-term trainees), design comprehensive MCH training curricula, establish mentorship models, develop MCH-related internship and experiential learning opportunities, create academic-practice partnerships, and form advisory committees. Merit review will assess applications across six criteria: Need (10 points), Response (40 points), Performance Management (10 points), Impact (15 points), Resources and Capabilities (15 points), and Support Requested (10 points). The application deadline is June 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with applications submitted through Grants.gov.
Up to five grants will be awarded with funding of approximately $155,000 per year per grant for a five-year performance period from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2031, with total expected funding of $775,000 in FY 2026. An additional recipient may receive an administrative supplement of up to $15,000 to convene an annual recipient meeting, subject to appropriations availability. The estimated award date is August 29, 2026, with a project end date of September 30, 2031. Post-award requirements include annual performance reporting through the Discretionary Grants Information System (DGIS) and compliance with 2 CFR 200, the HHS Grants Policy Statement, and HRSA strategic priorities. Programs will be conducted at applicant institutions and in partnership with community-based practice settings in rural or underserved communities.
