About this opportunity
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), with nine partnering NIH Institutes and Centers, is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit renewal applications for the HIV International Epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) Consortium; applications are not being solicited at this time, but the forecast was posted May 27, 2025, to allow potential applicants time to develop collaborations. This is a limited competition restricted to current IeDEA Regional Data Centers: Foundation for AIDS Research (New York, NY), Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN), Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), Université de Bordeaux - ISPED (France), Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, TN), University of Bern (Switzerland), and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, NY). The consortium integrates clinical, epidemiologic, genomic, and contextual real-world HIV data through harmonized standards and interoperable systems to generate evidence and advance implementation science. Regional Cohort Centers collaborate across scientific working groups to investigate research priorities and develop analytic methods using cutting-edge data science and artificial intelligence technologies to support data sharing, re-use, and reproducibility. The consortium supports studies of HIV morbidity, mortality, comorbidities, and multidimensional risk factors, and evaluates strategies to improve HIV prevention, treatment, and care aligned with the U.S. Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative. The funding opportunity will utilize U01 activity codes and requires funded international collaborations between domestic prime organizations and foreign organizations; one or more International Project is mandatory. The program is specifically designed to support international partnerships—not projects with only foreign consultants, unique equipment purchases, or non-NIH foreign collaborations. Grant authorities derive from Sections 301 and 405 of the Public Health Service Act and 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200.

Update #2 · Latest ·
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), with partnering National Institutes of Health Institutes, Centers, and Offices, seeks to advance its mission through continued support for the Implementation and Evaluation of Databases to Examine AIDS Consortium. This research network integrates clinical, epidemiologic, genomic, and contextual real-world data through harmonized data standards and interoperable data systems to generate evidence, perform data-driven research, and advance implementation science. Regional Cohort Centers collaborate across scientific working groups to investigate research priorities and develop innovative analytic methods. The consortium will apply cutting-edge data science approaches and incorporate emerging artificial intelligence technologies through scalable tools, computational models, and workflows to support data sharing, re-use, and reproducibility. The consortium supports studies of HIV morbidity, mortality, comorbidities, and multidimensional risk factors for HIV. As a platform for implementation science, the consortium evaluates strategies to improve HIV prevention, treatment, and care, contributing to the goals of the U.S. Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative. Grant authorities that allow NIAID to forecast this opportunity are as follows: Sections 301 and 405 of the Public Health Service Act as amended (42 USC 241 and 284) and under Federal Regulations 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200.
Update #1 ·
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, with other NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and Office of AIDS Research (OAR), intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications to continue support for the HIV International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) Consortium. The consortium is a network of seven (7) geographical defined Regional Cohort Centers (RCC) awards that define their regional research agenda and bring together HIV clinical, research and contextual data to address their geographically focused questions, as well as global IeDEA research priorities. Collectively these data are used to understand, inform and guide the response to the HIV epidemic. Further, IeDEA facilitates access to data by working with data consumers at the clinic, national, and global level and creating data tools to strengthen data quality and facilitate data analysis. This NOFO will utilize the U01 activity code.
Applications are not being solicited at this time. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. Investigators with expertise and insights into this area of HIV epidemiology are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO.
Eligibility
Other Eligible ApplicantsIndian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized);Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government;U.S. Territory or Possession;Faith-based or Community-based Organizations;Regional Organizations. Note: This funding opportunity is specifically designed to support funded international collaborations between a domestic prime organization and foreign organizations. One or more International Project is required. This NOFO should not be used for projects in which the only international elements are foreign consultants, purchasing unique equipment or supplies from foreign vendors, foreign collaborations that do not involve NIH funding or any other foreign component that would not result in a foreign subaward.
