About this opportunity

The Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Service, specifically the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), is seeking grant proposals for the FY25 Ensuring Research Integrity - Program Development and Evaluation Program. The grant aims to support innovative projects that develop and implement approaches to promote research integrity and prevent misconduct, with three primary focus areas: (1) creating educational resources on research integrity, (2) developing risk assessment tools for research environments, and (3) implementing intervention programs to improve research practices. Eligible applicants include universities, hospitals, laboratories, nonprofits, state and tribal governments, and individual researchers, with a preference for projects that provide insights into research ethics and develop practical strategies for responsible scientific conduct. The evaluation will likely focus on the proposed project's potential to create empirical research on factors affecting research integrity, with an emphasis on identifying root causes of research misconduct. The grant opportunity is posted on August 1, 2024, with a due date of July 30, 2025.

The funding opportunity anticipates awards in 12-month budget periods, with a total performance period of up to 24 months. While specific award amounts are not explicitly stated, similar ORI grants have historically ranged from $40,000 to $750,000. Recipients will be required to submit non-competing continuation applications for each budget period after the first, with continuation funding contingent upon satisfactory project progress, appropriate federal fund stewardship, and alignment with government interests. The projects are expected to be conducted domestically, with potential for international components that provide a direct benefit to U.S. Public Health Service-funded institutions. Materials and data developed under the award will be subject to federal usage rights, with recipients retaining copyright while granting the government royalty-free, nonexclusive reproduction and publication rights.
