About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking applications from eligible entities to support Maternal Mortality Review Committees. The objective is to identify and characterize pregnancy-related deaths, abstract clinical and non-clinical data, conduct informant interviews, and enter information into a standard data system within 2 years of death. This will improve the timeliness and availability of information on strategies to prevent pregnancy-related deaths and reduce disparities. Applicants must demonstrate the legal authority and protections to access vital records and conduct case reviews, as well as the ability to share collected data with CDC. Priority will be given to comprehensive approaches for identifying deaths, abstracting and entering case information, conducting informant interviews, and supporting multidisciplinary committee reviews to develop prevention recommendations.

Up to 59 awards of approximately $451,611 per year for 5 years, totaling $133,725,000, are anticipated. Eligible applicants include state/local/territorial governments, Indian tribal organizations, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The application is due on May 23, 2024, and awards are expected to start on September 30, 2024.

Synopsis
