About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Bone Marrow Failure Research Program Resource Development Award with a full application due November 4, 2026, and a pre-application letter of intent due October 7, 2026. This award carries a single-award ceiling of $1.25 million total cost for approximately one grant.
Applicants must be extramural or intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, including foreign and domestic organizations, for-profit and nonprofit entities, and public or private organizations. Independent investigators at all career levels may serve as Principal Investigator, though each investigator may be named PI on a maximum of two applications to this program. Cost sharing is not required.
The award funds development of a multiomic atlas generated from well-annotated human bone marrow failure samples derived from marrow specimens, intended to serve as an open-access, durable resource for the BMF research and clinical communities. Applications must include single-cell omic analyses as foundational components and must submit a robust Data Resource Sharing Plan describing the means and timeline for making the fully developed resource available to the scientific and clinical community. A Sustainment Plan (two-page limit) addressing long-term resource maintenance is also required. Clinical trials and animal studies are prohibited; direct costs may not support clinical trial or animal study costs. Travel costs for investigators supporting multi-institutional collaborations are allowable, as are travel costs for up to two investigators to attend one scientific or technical meeting per year.
The period of performance runs a maximum of two years. Awards made from FY26 funding will be issued no later than September 30, 2027, with funds expiring for use on September 30, 2032. Peer review is scheduled for January 2027 and programmatic review for March 2027.
Applications undergo two-tier review: peer review evaluates technical merit, impact, personnel, budget, and environmental factors; programmatic review selects applications for funding based on relevance to program priorities, peer reviewer ratings, and available federal funds.
The program is assigned to Military Medical Research and Development (CFDA 12.420).
Synopsis
Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Bone Marrow Failure Research Program (BMFRP) Resource Development Award (RDA) supports the development of a multiomic atlas generated from well-annotated human bone marrow failure (BMF) samples, with omic data derived from marrow specimens. The resulting dataset should serve as an open-access, durable resource for the BMF research and clinical communities and is expected to facilitate key discoveries that advance the understanding of BMF diseases.
Distinctive Features: The application must include a robust Data Resource Sharing Plan that describes the means and timeline by which the fully developed resource will be made available to the scientific and clinical community.
