About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Bone Marrow Failure Research Program Idea Development Award, with a full application deadline of November 4, 2026; pre-applications are due August 5, 2026, and invitations to submit full applications will be issued September 16, 2026.
The CDMRP will allocate approximately $4.0 million to fund approximately five awards, each capped at $800,000 total cost with a maximum three-year period of performance. Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, both domestic and foreign, for-profit and nonprofit entities. Principal Investigators must be Established Investigators (10 or more years from first independent appointment) or Early-Career Investigators (fewer than 10 years from first independent appointment); each investigator may serve as PI on a maximum of two applications.
The program supports hypothesis-driven research addressing at least one of two focus areas: finding effective bone marrow failure treatments and cures, or understanding the causes and progression of bone marrow failure diseases. Preliminary data is not required; applications should demonstrate the ability to achieve interpretable results in the absence of supporting preliminary data. Clinical trials are not permitted. Reviewers will assess Principal Investigators using distinct review criteria based on their eligibility category (EI or ECI), with evaluation emphasizing innovation, impact, scientific rationale, feasibility, and translational potential.
Applications undergo a two-tier review process: peer review evaluates technical merit, and programmatic review assesses relevance to program objectives and military relevance. Extramural organizations submit full applications through Grants.gov; intramural Department of War organizations submit through eBRAP. Awards are anticipated no later than September 30, 2027, using FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032. Annual and final technical progress reports must use the Research Performance Progress Report format, and a data management plan compliant with DoD Instructions 3200.12 will be requested for recommended applications.
CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development).
