About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Autism Research Program Idea Development Award to fund innovative, high-risk/high-reward research addressing critical problems in autism, with a full application deadline of October 22, 2026 and a pre-application deadline of July 27, 2026. The CDMRP expects to allot approximately $2.25 million to fund three awards, with a total cost cap of $750,000 per award and a maximum three-year period of performance.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, both domestic and foreign, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and public or private entities. Principal Investigators must be at or above the level of Assistant Professor and may apply individually or as partnering investigators on collaborative projects. Clinical trials are prohibited.
Applications are strongly encouraged to address one of nine specified Areas of Interest, including assessment of novel therapeutics, dissemination of evidence-based practices, healthcare provider training, diagnosis and service delivery improvement, and mechanistic studies of autism heterogeneity and comorbidities. The program follows a two-step process requiring submission of a two-page preproposal narrative through eBRAP, followed by an eight-page project narrative and supporting documentation through either Grants.gov (extramural organizations) or eBRAP (intramural DOW organizations).
Peer review will evaluate scientific merit, impact, innovation, and personnel qualifications, followed by programmatic review considering relevance to program priorities and portfolio balance. Peer review is scheduled for December 2026, with programmatic review in February 2027. Awards will be made no later than September 30, 2027, using FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032. The program is funded under CFDA 12.420, Military Medical Research and Development.
