Forecast synopsis
The purpose of this NOFO is to create and support a research network of rapid, applied research with rigorous study design (i.e., natural experiments, quasi-experimental design studies, simulation modeling, and economic evaluations) to evaluate the impact of currently ongoing programs, policies, and environmental improvement strategies that aim to improve chronic disease outcomes and related health disparities by addressing the social determinants of health. Component A: Research Centers - The purpose of Component A is to support research sites performing natural experiments and epidemiological research aimed at identifying and evaluating socioeconomic/cultural policies and programs that mitigate inequities in chronic disease. Component B: Modeling - The purpose of Component B is to support a research site that will apply a system science approach to build simulation models of the interplay of SDOH factors and their relationship to chronic disease and disparities, providing long-term estimates (e.g., 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, etc) of chronic disease outcomes and their disparities, quality-adjusted life-year, and cost and cost-effectiveness of a policy, program, or strategy. Component C: Coordinating Center - The purpose of component C is to provide organizational, logistic, and communication support to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and public health impact of the research centers that are funded as part of Components A and B.
