The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is seeking applications for its Fiscal Year 2025 Young Investigator Program (YIP). The program aims to support early-career scientists and engineers who have received a Ph.D. or equivalent degree since April 1, 2017, and have demonstrated exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. Eligible applicants include U.S. institutions of higher education, industrial laboratories, for-profit, and non-profit research organizations, where the Principal Investigator (PI) is employed full-time in a regular, non-contractor position and is a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. The program objectives are to foster creative basic research, enhance early career development, and increase awareness of the Air Force and Space Force's scientific needs. Applications will be evaluated based on the scientific and technical merit, qualifications of the PI, and relevance to the Air Force's mission. The preliminary white paper deadline is April 22, 2024, and the full proposal deadline is June 21, 2024.

Individual YIP awards provide up to $150,000 per year for three years, for a total of $450,000. An anticipated 37 traditionally funded YIPs and 2 YIPs funded in partnership with the Laboratory for Physical Sciences may be awarded, with potential for an additional 37 YIPs from other AFOSR research funding. The program is funded under the Air Force Defense Research Sciences Program (CFDA 12.800).
