About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science is seeking quotations for specialized metal powders, specifically zirconium powder and 316L stainless steel spherical powder. The solicitation requires vendors to submit a comprehensive package including signed documentation, price lists, country of origin verification, lead time confirmation, and potential discount information. Technical specifications are stringent, with the zirconium powder requiring 99.2% purity and a maximum particle size of 45 microns, while the stainless steel powder must be AISI 316L grade with identical particle size constraints. Vendors must carefully review and meet all technical requirements, as bids not complying with specifications will be automatically disqualified. The solicitation was posted on May 15, 2025, with responses due by May 19, 2025, creating a brief four-day window for submission.

The contract opportunity is not set aside for any specific business category and will be evaluated based on price reasonableness, technical compliance, and vendor capabilities. The total quantity requested is 1.5 kg of zirconium powder and 2 kg of stainless steel spherical powder, to be delivered to the performance location in Lemont, IL. Vendors are required to confirm their ability to use DDP or DAP incoterms and disclose any applicable tariffs. The procurement falls under NAICS category 332999 for miscellaneous fabricated metal product manufacturing and PSC category 9515 for plate, sheet, strip, foil, and leaf products. While specific award value is not disclosed, the technical specifications and detailed requirements suggest this is a precise, potentially high-value procurement for specialized scientific or research purposes.
