About this opportunity

The US Army Contracting Command-Redstone is conducting market research to identify potential sources for a wear debris analyzer system for the Army Oil Analysis Program (AOAP). The special notice, posted on August 18, 2025, seeks information about suppliers capable of providing a rapidly deployable elemental analysis instrument that can analyze metallic fragments recovered from aircraft magnetic chip collectors. The system must be capable of analyzing the size, shape, count, and elemental composition of debris including iron, aluminum, and chromium. The procurement is classified under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and PSC code 3590 for Miscellaneous Service and Trade Equipment. Responses to this market research notice are due by August 22, 2025.

The primary objective of this market research is to support the AOAP mission of providing continuous in-service lubricant sample analysis for Army aircraft worldwide, ultimately reducing mean time to repair and improving operational availability while reducing mission risk. The government has provided a detailed purchase description for a ChipCHECK Model CC121 Portable Debris Analysis System, which includes specifications for a complete system with debris analysis unit, sample trays, calibration standards, power accessories, and a comprehensive material reference library. The system must include an 8-hour virtual training session for up to 8 attendees and come with a 12-month warranty. The software-based material reference library should cover elements and alloys relevant to aerospace engineering to enable AOAP technicians to provide fast and accurate maintenance recommendations. No specific set-aside designation has been applied to this opportunity, making it open to all qualified contractors who can demonstrate capability to provide the required analytical instrumentation.

Notice text

The US Army Contracting Command-Redstone, Operations, Services, & Training Division, plans to obtain information to serve as market research to help identify potential sources that can provide the Army with a rapidly deployable elemental analysis instrument capable of analyzing the size, shape, and count of the metallic fragments/debris recovered from an aircraft’s onboard magnetic chip collectors, as well as their elemental composition (iron, aluminum, chromium, etc.).  The proposed system should employ a software-based material reference library of the elements and alloys relevant to aerospace engineering.  The material reference library enables AOAP lab technicians to provide fast, accurate maintenance recommendations, ultimately reducing the mean time to repair (MTTR) and improving the operational availability of aircraft while also reducing mission risk.

This effort directly contributes to the AOAP’s mission to provide continuous in-service lubricant sample analysis in support of Army requirements worldwide.
