Update #8 · Latest ·

Question 10:  Have the tanks been cleaned already?  If there is sediment at the bottom of the tank, the divers will stir it up and getting UT readings will be harder.  This should only be a concern on the non- elevated tanks.
Answer 10:  Elevated storage tanks have not been cleaned within the last 7 years.  Ground storage tank 1110 is fairly new so sediment should not be an issue at that facility.  The two ground storage tanks near building 820 are fire suppression system tanks and have not been flushed or cleaned as far as we know.  This is the first year to be inspected per SOW.

Question 11:  Will adhesion tests be required?
Answer 11:  Adhesion tests are not part of this requirement per SOW.

Question 12:  How high are the elevated tanks in this job...?
Answer 12:  The heights of our elevated storage tanks are:

Tower 6676 is Approx. 111 feet

Tower 5710 is Approx. 118 feet

Tower 1506 is approx. 148 feet

Tower 5084 is approx. 135 feet

Tower 165 is approx. 106 feet

Tower 232 is approx. 170 feet

Question 13:  OSHA and Army Corp requires this type of confined space diving to be done with surface supply air and hard wire communication.  What is your requirement fort divers dress on this type of job?
Answer 13:  Clothing for divers, this is an industry standard and should be followed.  However, they have to be sprayed with 500 PPM chlorine solution before entering the tank with recommended full protection for the divers.

Question 14:  What is the preferred reporting style?
Answer 14:  The preferred method reporting style is word document.  Attachment of DVD and or photos will help better identify the specifics of each situation.

Question 15:  What type of Cathodic protection?
Answer 15:  Elevated tanks have impressed current Cathodic protection.

Question 16:  What is the diameter of entry points?
Answer 16:  This is not the same for all.  Since some are not upgraded yet, there might be some that are still 30 inches.   But some were upgraded to the new 36" requirements already.

Question 17a:  What are the dates of operation?
Answer 17a:  Dates of operation will be set by several factors:  award and how soon contractor can rally his team into place.

Question 17b:  When do we have to have it done by?
Answer 17b:  To be determined.

Question 18:  Which regulations for diving is the Air Force requiring for crew man power and equipment type? US Navy or USACE or Federal OSHA
Answer 18:  we would like to follow the most stringent regulations there is to ensure the safety of our system, and comply with OSHA and AWWA at a minimum.

Question 19:  There is reference to using Scuba divers. Please confirm that scuba is not allowed per AWWA, as there in no body contact with the water allowed

Answer 4:  Inspection should be a simple annual inspection however with recommendation for remediation of tank.
