About this opportunity
Air Combat Command is conducting a sources-sought inquiry for provision and installation of a water jet machining center at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, with responses due by June 17, 2026. This is a market-analysis effort only and does not constitute a solicitation.
The system must be new and delivered to Building 7520, Room 171, with factory assembly and testing completed prior to shipment and on-site installation by a factory technician. Power requirements are 110VAC and 440-480VAC 3-phase 60 Hz; compressed air and water connections are available on-site and will be disconnected from the existing unit and reconnected to the new unit.
Technical specifications include a cantilever-style X-Y-Z axis configuration with minimum 100-inch by 55-inch cutting envelope and 8-inch Z-axis travel; minimum linear positional accuracy and repeatability of ±0.0010 inches over the full work envelope; minimum travel speed of 180 inches per minute; 30 horsepower direct-drive pump system rated minimum 60,000 PSI supplying a 0.012-inch nozzle at 0.67 GPM under full load; and 600-pound bulk abrasive delivery system. The controller must run Windows 10 64-bit operating system; previous Windows versions violate Department of Defense security directives and are not permitted. The system must include rigid scissor-style hard plumbing, laser locating device, compact video camera with integrated controller software, rapid water level control with minimum 3-inch adjustment for quiet submerged cutting below 80 dBA, and programmable solids removal system.
Contractor shall provide four days of on-site training for up to five students covering programming, operation, maintenance, and first pump rebuild. Work is performed Monday through Friday, 0730–1630, excluding weekends, federal holidays, and Air Force Global Strike Command down days. Prospective contractors should email A1C Trent Waterman (trent.waterman@us.af.mil) or Joshua Johnson (joshua.johnson.233@us.af.mil) and include CAGE code and active GSA contract numbers. A draft Statement of Work is attached.
