About this opportunity
The Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking proposals for Warm Manual Valves to be used in the Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) particle accelerator upgrade project. Specifically, these valves will be installed on the Tunnel Transfer Line (TTL) Warm Manifolds to deliver helium gas for operating the cryogenically cooled superconducting radio frequency cavities. The solicitation is open to manufacturers in the Industrial Valve Manufacturing category, with proposals due by May 20, 2025. Interested contractors should carefully review the attached specification document (ED0042473-PIP-II TTL Warm Manual Valves specification.pdf) for detailed technical requirements. The procurement follows standard commercial product acquisition protocols, as indicated by the attached General Terms and Conditions document.
This contract opportunity is not set aside for any specific business type and appears to be a standard competitive procurement. The valves will be used in a highly specialized scientific environment, specifically for a sophisticated particle accelerator system operating at extremely low temperatures (2 K using liquid helium). While specific award value is not disclosed in the solicitation, the technical complexity suggests this is likely a high-value technical procurement. The place of performance will be at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, which is located in Batavia, Illinois. The procurement process includes several supporting documents such as proposal certifications and subcontractor annual representation forms, indicating a comprehensive and structured acquisition approach for these critical scientific infrastructure components.
Notice text
The Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) is a particle accelerator being built as an upgrade of Fermilab
accelerator complex. The accelerator includes cryogenically cooled superconducting radio frequency
cavities using liquid helium (He II) at 2 K. The Tunnel Transfer Line (TTL) Warm Manifolds deliver helium
gas for operation of the accelerator. This specification seeks proposals for Warm Manual Valves that are
to be installed on the TTL Warm Manifolds.
