About this opportunity
The United States Special Operations Command has issued a Special Notice for a sole source acquisition targeting maintenance services for wireless wearable medical devices. The Naval Special Warfare Command intends to award a contract directly to Caretaker Medical, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, for maintaining specialized equipment systems that continuously monitor vital signs. This acquisition is classified under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 334510 for Electromedical and Electrotherapeutic Apparatus Manufacturing, with a size standard of 1,250 employees. The procurement will be conducted using Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12 for commercial items and Subpart 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Caretaker Medical is identified as the only authorized vendor capable of providing these critical maintenance services.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to procure maintenance services for vital sign monitoring devices used during specialized military training environments. The government plans to award a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) Purchase Order to Caretaker Medical, with a contract value that falls within the Simplified Acquisition Threshold. The opportunity is not a competitive solicitation, and the government retains full discretion to determine contract award based on responses. Contractors should note the key deadlines: the notice was posted on April 14, 2025, with a response due date of April 30, 2025. Eligibility is effectively limited to Caretaker Medical, as they are considered the sole source provider with unique capabilities, including FDA clearance and specialized medical monitoring expertise. The government will continue monitoring the market for potential alternative wearable solutions but currently views Caretaker Medical as the only vendor capable of meeting the specialized maintenance requirements without compromising safety protocols.
