About this opportunity
The Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate is seeking proposals to develop manufacturing technologies focused on strengthening domestic defense manufacturing capabilities for transparent window systems capable of withstanding temperatures over 1000 degrees Celsius for hypersonic platforms. Proposals are requested to address reducing manufacturing costs, cycle times, and variability while improving production rates and material properties. Awards of up to $4 million total will be made to support research developing new production methods or enhancing existing processes, with a goal of transitioning capabilities to production. Proposals are due by March 17, 2022 and will be evaluated based on technical merit, cost realism, and transition potential.
There is no set-aside designation for this opportunity. It is anticipated that up to two contracts will be awarded under NAICS code 336413 (Guided Missile and Space Vehicle Manufacturing) with individual awards between $250,000 to $4 million over one to three years. Proposals should involve new manufacturing capabilities discovery or efficiency/quality improvements to current processes. The place of performance is within the United States. Deliverables include at least 10 window samples and associated variability data for evaluation within 18-36 month periods of performance.
