About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard Surface Force Logistics Center (SFLC) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding Main Diesel Engine (MDE) renewals for the 270' Medium Endurance Cutter fleet. This Special Notice, posted by the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Coast Guard, seeks industry feedback on replacing existing Fairbanks Morse 18 Cylinder ALCO 251 Main Diesel Engines across the MEC fleet. The RFI is issued solely for informational and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or quotes. Interested parties have until October 31, 2025, to respond with their capabilities and feedback. The Coast Guard emphasizes that this posting does not commit the government to any future contract and will not compensate respondents for their submission costs.
The primary objective of this RFI is to improve government-industry relations, promote transparency, and support operational efficiencies in maintaining Coast Guard fleet readiness for global missions. Contractors are requested to provide a brief capabilities statement not exceeding two pages, demonstrating their ability to perform comprehensive engine renewal services including removal, installation, technical support, and operational testing. While SAM registration is not required for RFI participation, contractors must maintain active SAM registration without exclusions to be considered for any future solicitation. The project involves complex technical requirements such as OEM technical representative oversight, precise alignment procedures, system connections, fluid management, and extensive testing protocols. The work encompasses critical engine room operations with specific fluid requirements including 320 gallons of lubricating oil, 20 gallons of Nalco 2000, and 430 gallons of distilled water per engine. This initiative supports the Coast Guard's mission to maintain operational readiness of its medium endurance cutter fleet through strategic engine modernization efforts.
