About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking to procure a Next Generation Surface Search Radar (NXR) system to replace six existing radar systems currently deployed across 14 cutter platforms and 113 Vessel Traffic Service surveillance sites. This Request for Information (RFI) aims to gather market research and industry feedback on potential radar technologies that can enhance maritime situational awareness and address emerging maritime threats. The Coast Guard is specifically looking for advanced navigational and surveillance systems that meet IMO and IEC maritime standards, with a focus on X-Band and S-Band capabilities. Interested contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) and are required to complete a comprehensive questionnaire and provide commented versions of the draft Statement of Work and System Requirements Document. The RFI response deadline is April 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM ET, with responses to be submitted electronically to specified Coast Guard contacts.
The procurement is not designated for any specific set-aside and falls under NAICS Code 334511 for Search, Detection, Navigation, and Nautical System Manufacturing, with a Product Service Code of 5840 for Radar Equipment. Current radar systems in use include AN/SPS-50, AN/SPS-78, AN/SPS-79, AN/SPS-73, and Terma Scanter 2001 Radars, which will be replaced by the new system. While no specific award value or budget range is mentioned in the RFI, the Coast Guard is seeking a scalable solution with standardized configurations, common interfaces, and manufacturer support for at least 15 years. The system requirements include both "Objective" (preferred) and "Threshold" (minimum) specifications, with the government evaluating potential solutions based on their ability to meet and potentially exceed these requirements. Contractors are encouraged to provide detailed feedback on the technical feasibility and capabilities of their proposed radar systems.
