About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology seeks one ultrafast microscope camera system to support gene therapy nanoparticle characterization within its Biosystems and Biomaterials Division, with quotes due August 14. This is a 100% small business set-aside procurement under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul Part 12 for commercial products.
Place of performance is Gaithersburg, Maryland. The procurement specifies a PCO Dimax 3.6 ST camera as a brand name requirement due to essential software interoperability with existing NIST Python control software developed using the pco.camware Software Development Kit; procuring an alternative brand would render the custom codebase obsolete and require complete software rewriting. The NAICS code is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing; small business size standard is 1,000 employees. The PSC code is 6650, Optical Instruments, Test Equipment, Components And Accessories.
Required technical specifications include minimum 2,166 frames per second at full 3.6 megapixel resolution with real-time uncompressed streaming via 8x10 Gb Camera Link HS interface; large sensor pixels of at least 11 micrometers by 11 micrometers; global shutter mechanism; 10-bit uncompressed data output; low non-linearity performance; high fullwell capacity of 60,000 electrons in low-gain mode with dynamic range up to 60 dB; and flexible imaging speeds reaching up to 56,338 fps through Region of Interest adjustment. The camera requires liquid cooling and must include user operation and maintenance manuals in electronic or hardcopy format. Acceptance and place of delivery is NIST's Gaithersburg facility at 100 Bureau Drive.
Notice text
The gene therapy manufacturing innovations in measurement sciences (IMS) project, in the Biosystems and Biomaterials Division, within the Material Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and technology, pursues the goal of developing light scattering microscopy methods to characterize gene delivery particles. Emerging gene therapy treatments use gene delivery nanoparticles, such as viral vectors and non-viral carriers, to cure intractable diseases. These manufactured particles suffer heterogeneity issues that hinder treatment efficacy and safety. This project aims to develop light-scattering microscopy methods to enable rapid, multi-attribute measurements of individual gene therapy nanoparticles’ physical characteristics. Such measurements will speed the development of new gene therapy treatments and improve their efficacy and safety.
