About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding underwater hull scanning capability for their 154' Fast Response Cutters (FRC). This Special Notice, posted on October 27, 2025, is intended for market research and planning purposes only and is not a formal solicitation. The Coast Guard seeks to identify commercially available technologies capable of conducting in-water hull inspections to assess hull plating thickness and detect defects. The opportunity is open to all interested parties without set-asides, and responses are entirely voluntary. Interested vendors are encouraged to provide detailed information about their scanning technologies and capabilities to inform potential future procurement decisions.
The primary objective of this RFI is to enable the Coast Guard to develop a comprehensive understanding of current market capabilities for underwater hull inspection technologies that would support more effective repair planning and reduce unplanned drydock extensions. Respondents must submit detailed technical information electronically to LaToya Sorrell at LaToya.N.Sorrell@uscg.mil by November 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST, including specifications on scanning resolution, capability to scan through fouling and coatings, full versus targeted hull scan options, technical readiness level, industry certifications, personnel requirements, and any proprietary technology considerations. There are no specific eligibility restrictions, and participation is entirely voluntary with no government cost reimbursement. The Coast Guard indicates that based on the information collected and subject to technical feasibility determination and funding availability, it may issue a formal solicitation on SAM.gov in the future, and reserves the right to utilize all submitted information for future procurement purposes.
