About this opportunity
The Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service is conducting market research for the procurement of domestically-produced canned and pouched tuna for USDA Food Programs. The Sources Sought Notice seeks vendors capable of supplying 100% domestic tuna in specific pack sizes, including 12.0 oz canned tuna, 66.5 oz canned tuna, 66.5 oz kosher canned tuna, and 43.0 oz tuna pouches. This is a Request for Information under FAR 12.201(e), which means it is not a formal solicitation but a preliminary market research effort to assess commercial availability of the specified tuna products. Interested parties are invited to review the attached Federal Purchase Program Specification and evaluate their company's production capabilities. The notice was posted on September 5, 2024, with a response deadline of July 7, 2025, providing potential vendors ample time to prepare and submit their information.
The opportunity is not designated with any specific set-aside status, indicating it is open to all qualified vendors who can meet the stringent requirements. The tuna products must be produced in the United States, caught in compliance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and certified kosher. Vendors will need to demonstrate their ability to meet detailed specifications including product characteristics, packaging standards, and quality assurance protocols. The USDA will require USDC Seafood Inspection Program certification and adherence to specific labeling and traceability requirements. While no specific award value or budget range is currently disclosed, the comprehensive specification suggests a significant procurement effort aimed at ensuring high-quality, domestically-sourced tuna for federal food programs.
