About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, operating under Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC, seeks one thermographic video camera for prototype thermal test monitoring in support of the Mu2e production target design effort, with proposals due October 19, 2026. The procurement is open competition with no set-aside.
Place of performance is Fermilab Receiving Warehouse 2 in Batavia, Illinois. The camera must deliver minimum image resolution of 640 by 512 pixels, noise-equivalent temperature difference of 20 millikelvin or less, accuracy of 1°C (or 1% of full range at the high end), and sensitivity in the medium-wave infrared band of 3 to 5 microns. The camera must image temperatures between 20°C and 1300°C, achieve 60 frames per second or greater at full resolution without windowing, accommodate working distances between 0.2 and 1 meter, and image a 75-millimeter target at 0.2 meters with pixel size of 0.15 millimeters or smaller. The specification strongly prefers f/2.5 aperture systems and permits f/4 apertures with documented verification; f/5.6 systems are prohibited. The camera must feature removable user-replaceable lenses, compatibility with the GenICam interface standard over gigabit Ethernet, separate ports for triggering and video output, and operation in general industrial shop environments between -40°C and 50°C. All power supplies and integral cooling systems must be included. Optional analysis software is acceptable as a perpetual, transferable non-subscription license. Preference is given to cameras with smaller mechanical footprints when sensor performance is equivalent.
Award shall be made on a best-value basis to the lowest-priced technically acceptable offeror deemed responsible, with FFDG intending to award without discussions. Pricing must be firm-fixed FOB Fermilab. The NAICS code is 423410, Photographic Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesalers. Questions are due October 19, 2026. Contact Patrick Tarpey, Procurement Specialist III, at ptarpey@fnal.gov or 630-840-3640.
Notice text
The Mu2e production target design effort requires a thermographic video camera for prototype thermal test monitoring at a high level of accuracy and detail to validate target performance and guarantee particle production yield for timely completion of the experiment. This specification covers the minimum requirements for a camera that meets the needs of the test series and project.
