About this opportunity

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for TECAN parts and services. This notice is not a request for competitive quotations but rather an announcement of the FBI's intent to award a one-year, firm-fixed-price contract exclusively to TECAN U.S., Inc., located in Morrisville, North Carolina. The contract is being awarded under the sole-source authority of FAR 6.302-1, which permits noncompetitive procurement when only one responsible source exists. The applicable NAICS code is 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance), and the PSC code is 6640 (Laboratory Equipment and Supplies). The notice was posted on March 25, 2026, with a comment deadline of April 3, 2026.

The FBI's Laboratory Division, specifically the Biometrics Analysis Section and Federal DNA Database Unit, requires TECAN parts to maintain and upgrade their TECAN Robotic Workstations, which are critical equipment used throughout the DNA analytical process. TECAN is identified as the sole vendor capable of providing preventative maintenance, repair, and upgrade services for these specialized workstations, as they were validated to be best suited for the FBI's DNA automated processes. The specific parts required under this contract include the Nest for Fluent Deck Segment, a Container for System Liquid, and a Cart for System or Waste Liquid Container. While this is a sole-source award with no competitive bid process, interested parties are advised to monitor the government's contracting system for any updates or modifications to this acquisition.
