About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force Headquarters Air Force Academy intends to solicit a tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with fully integrated Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) capabilities, with sources sought responses due by July 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM MDT. This is a market-research RFI only and does not constitute a binding solicitation commitment.

The system must meet specific technical specifications: benchtop design weighing no more than 200 lbs, operating on standard 110VAC power with compatible UPS backup, and equipped with vacuum systems achieving 0.1 Pa or better. Electron optics must feature Tungsten or CeB6 sources (user-exchangeable with 3,000+ hour lifetime), accelerating voltage of 1.0–20.0 kV, and live magnification between 150,000 and 350,000. The system requires simultaneous Backscattered Electron (BSE) and Secondary Electron (SE) detectors with 8 nm and 6 nm resolution minimums respectively, plus a motorized X-Y-Z stage accommodating three standard 12.7 mm SEM stubs. The EDS detector must be a fully integrated Silicon Drift Detector capable of elemental mapping from Boron to Uranium with real-time live-image analysis. Included components must encompass an integrated color microscope camera for navigation, PC workstation with 24-inch minimum monitor, advanced imaging software with mapping and stitching capabilities, on-site installation, comprehensive training, and minimum 1-year warranty.

Vendors must submit capability statements including company profile, CAGE Code, Unique Entity ID, socio-economic status, product specifications, manufacturing status and Trade Agreements Act compliance, and existing Government contract vehicles (GWACs or GSA schedules). Responses should be submitted via email to Ronald Wilson and Mikayla Brandt. Classification: NAICS 334516, PSC 6650.
