About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting a sources sought market research for a custom optical assembly for laser conditioning, with responses due by August 7, 2026. This is not a request for proposals or quotation and does not commit the Government to award; NIST will use vendor responses to determine acquisition method and whether to set-aside the procurement for small business. If at least two qualified small businesses can meet the specifications, the acquisition will be solicited as a small business set-aside; all small business set-aside categories are under consideration.
The optical assembly conditions laser light at 759 nanometers through spectral filtering, power stabilization and monitoring, and fiber coupling for NIST's Physical Measurements Lab, Time and Frequency Division, Neutral Atom Optical Clocks Group. The assembly must mount on a rigid, low-thermal-expansion glass or Invar baseplate with epoxy-bonded optical components and will integrate a government-furnished butterfly-packaged laser system with free-space output, optical isolator, narrow-bandwidth (10 gigahertz) volume Bragg grating, acousto-optic modulator, beam-steering and polarization-control optics, dichroic mirror, photodetector, laser shutter, and photonic crystal fiber. The assembly must be mounted in a 19-inch rack drawer with vibration isolation and panel-mounted electrical and optical interconnects. Performance specifications require fiber coupling efficiency exceeding 70 percent at each output port, output power variation less than 10 percent over 15 degrees Celsius around a design temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and documented polarization extinction ratio and thermal test results. Delivery, installation, and training must be completed within 16–18 weeks after receipt of order. Respondents must indicate the country of manufacture. NAICS 334413; PSC 6640.
