About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking potential suppliers of new microscope systems for the Boulder Microfabrication Facility (BMF) through a Sources Sought notice, with responses due November 20, 2026. No set-aside is used. Filed under NAICS 334516 and PSC 6640, the notice requires systems that inspect semiconductor devices with optical techniques standard to the industry inside an ISO class 5 cleanroom. Per the attached requirements summary, the systems need 200 mm stage travel in x and y, dual manual and computer-controlled operation through motorized stage, turret, and prism components, and 25x to 1000x magnification through eyepieces and objectives, with a six-position multi-objective turret described as optimal. Each system must include an integrated camera with publication-quality resolution, integrated communication, control, and image-analysis software, and support transmission, reflection, darkfield, DIC (Nomarski), and yellow light filtration imaging modes. Each system must fit a 3-foot by 3-foot tabletop, with weight compatible with pneumatic floating tables. NIST describes these microscopes as critical to its mission-critical device fabrication processes at the BMF.
