About this opportunity
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Southwestern Region is conducting a Sources Sought notice for the R-2508 Microwave Replacement Project in Ridgecrest, California. The project involves designing, engineering, and installing a new wideband IP-based microwave radio system to replace the existing infrastructure covering approximately 15,000 square miles north of Los Angeles. Potential contractors must demonstrate extensive experience with microwave, RF, and communications equipment, including tower antenna installation, communication rack buildout, and specialized safety protocols. Evaluation criteria will focus on technical, administrative, and management capabilities, with specific requirements including certified tower climbers, electrical licensing, and proven experience with similar communication infrastructure projects. Interested parties must submit capability statements to James Love via email by June 10, 2025, at 3:00 PM EDT, with comprehensive documentation detailing their qualifications and technical background.
The opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 237130, with a small business size standard of $45.0 million. The project encompasses installation at seven sites including Owens Valley, Indian Wells, Searles Valley, Little Lake, Cottonwood, Slate Range, and Laurel Mountain, with specific technical requirements such as a minimum 30 dB fade margin and 99.999% system availability. Contractors must provide comprehensive training for 8 FAA personnel, offer a standard commercial warranty, and commit to 10-year parts repair support. Additional requirements include providing spare parts, technical support, test equipment, and full project documentation. While no specific award value is mentioned, the complexity of the project suggests a significant investment in modernizing the FAA's communication infrastructure across multiple sites.
