About this opportunity
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health, issues a Sources Sought notice for a basic fluorescence microendoscope system, with responses due July 27, 2026. This is market research to identify qualified vendors; no solicitation, contract, or commitment to award will follow.
The equipment will support the Neuronal Circuits and Behavior Unit's ongoing investigation of neuronal circuits contributing to opioid use disorder and motivated behaviors including feeding and fight-or-flight responses. The system specification includes a Fluorescence Microscope Driver (Gen 3) with integrated laser and 470nm LED light source; LASER bandpass filters and fiberoptic patchcords; an eFocus Optogenetically Synchronized Fluorescence Microscope Body Gen 3 with electrowetting lenses permitting Z-space adjustments up to 300 microns and a 650x650 micron field of view; twist-on imaging cannulae with fluid injector capability; a USB 3.0 color behavior tracking camera system; a Gentec-EO Pronto-SI power meter; and a high-performance workstation configured with AMD Ryzen 9 processor, 64GB DDR5 RAM, RTX 5060 Ti graphics card, and 8TB total storage. One complete set is required. The system includes free Doric Neuroscience Studio software.
Respondents must submit a capability statement not exceeding 20 pages (excluding cover page and executive summary) detailing experience with equivalent technical tasks, personnel qualifications, total employee count, applicable GSA Schedule contracts or GWACs, company name, Unique Entity ID from SAM.gov, physical address, and technical and administrative points of contact. Responses are due electronically to John Johnson, Contract Specialist, at johnsonjr@mail.nih.gov. The NAICS code is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing; PSC is 6640, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies.
Notice text
This is a Sources Sought notice. This is NOT a solicitation for proposals, proposal abstracts, or quotations. The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding the availability and capability of all qualified sources to perform a potential requirement.
This notice is issued to help determine the availability of qualified companies technically capable of meeting the Government requirement, to determine the method of acquisition. It is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Responses will not be considered as proposals or quotes. No award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by the respondents to this notice. This notice is strictly for research and information purposes only. Small businesses are encouraged to respond.
BACKGROUND:
The Neuronal Circuits and Behavior Unit (NCBU) of the Cellular Neurobiology Research Branch (CNRB), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), uses a combination of state-of-the-art optogenetic, electrophysiology, two-photon fluorescence endomicroscopy, immunohistochemistry, and behavioral assays to elucidate the neuronal basis of survival behaviors, such as feeding, and determine how these behaviors are disrupted in eating disorders and drug addiction.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this acquisition is to procure a Basic fluorescence microendoscope for our ongoing work investigating neuronal circuits that contribute to opioid use disorder and natural/motivated behaviors such as feeding and fight-or-flight.
