About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency seeks proposals to develop a system of connected unmanned surface vessels called Sea Train to enable extended transoceanic transit and long range naval operations. Proposals are due February 20, 2020 in response to solicitation HR001120S0010 and must address developing conceptual designs, conducting analysis and simulation, and testing scaled models through a two-phase research effort. Phase 1 proposals will be evaluated based on technical and cost factors, with the option to exercise Phase 2 funding contingent on Phase 1 results. The research aims to demonstrate a four vessel Sea Train capable of 6,500 nautical mile transits and 1,000 nautical mile independent operations within sea states up to 5.
There is no set-aside designation for this opportunity. The NAICS code is 541715 and PSC code is R408. The research seeks to establish feasibility of reducing wave resistance through physical or formation-based connections between vessels. Multiple awards are anticipated for Phase 1 with periods of performance and budgets to be determined. Successful Phase 1 performers may have their Phase 2 option exercised contingent on demonstrating feasibility of the proposed Sea Train system design and control architecture.
Notice text
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Tactical Technology Office (TTO) seeks to enable extended transoceanic transit and long range naval operations by exploiting the efficiencies of a system of connected vessels (Sea Train). The Sea Train will demonstrate long range deployment capabilities for a distributed fleet of tactical Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs).
