About this opportunity

The Military Sealift Command (MSC), an organization within the Department of the Navy, issued a Request for Information (RFI) on January 22, 2026, to identify potential sources for HAZMAT storage containers designed for T-AKE Class ships. MSC operates a fleet of 14 T-AKE Class vessels, each equipped with four HAZMAT storage modules that have reached end-of-service life and require replacement. The RFI seeks ABS-classed, standard ISO 20-foot containers configured to store flammable materials such as paint while meeting American Bureau of Shipping Marine Vessel Rules and 46 CFR requirements for paint lockers on USCG-certificated, SOLAS-certified cargo ships. This is a market research initiative to assess industry capacity and identify qualified suppliers for fleet-wide replacement planning. Responses must be submitted by February 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. EST to james.l.parker2.civ@us.navy.mil.

Respondents are requested to provide company information, CAGE codes, business size classifications, and detailed capability statements demonstrating prior experience with shipboard module projects for ABS and USCG-compliant vessels. The replacement modules must incorporate specific design features including fixed total-flooding firefighting systems with manual actuation, integrated fire detection systems, heating and cooling capabilities, and segregated HAZMAT shelving along both interior sides, with maximum power consumption not exceeding 50 full-load amps. Respondents must also submit Rough Order of Magnitude pricing for multiple quantity scenarios (4, 16, and 56 modules), estimated design and fabrication timelines, alternative solutions if applicable, and any questions or considerations for MSC. While submission of capabilities statements is not mandatory, providing such information will assist the government in assessing organizational capacity. There are no specific eligibility restrictions, and this RFI is for information gathering purposes only; the government will not provide compensation for submitted information.
