About this opportunity
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) is seeking industry information on capabilities for untargeted metagenomic sequencing and advanced bioinformatics solutions to support the Non-Targeted Sequencing Identification System (NSIS) for the National Guard Bureau Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams and other Joint Force customers. The government is interested in portable, field-deployable sequencing hardware and user-friendly bioinformatics software that can rapidly identify biological threats, including emerging or modified pathogens. Key requirements include the ability to assess the functional threat potential of sample contents, generate real-time "Threat/No Threat" results, and integrate with existing government information-sharing systems. Responses to this Request for Information (RFI) should include technical details, estimated technology readiness levels, pricing information, and production capacity, with submissions due by December 12, 2024.
This RFI is not set-aside for any specific business categories. The government has not identified any potential incumbents or current contractors. The RFI does not specify an award value or budget range, but the anticipated outcomes aim to support the NSIS program requirements for the National Guard Bureau and Joint Force customers. The NAICS code associated with this opportunity is 541714 - Research and Development in Biotechnology (except Nanobiotechnology).
Notice text
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND), Joint Project Manager – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Sensors (JPM CBRN Sensors), Joint Product Manager for Biological Detection Systems (JPM BDS) office is interested in gathering information from industry on capabilities for untargeted metagenomic sequencing and advanced bioinformatics solutions. These capabilities are in support of the Non-Targeted Sequencing Identification System (NSIS) for the National Guard Bureau (NGB) Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams (WMD-CST) and other Joint Force customers (US Army, US Marine Corps, US Navy, US Air Force). The industry source(s) must have expertise in the development of sequencing technologies appropriate for both field operators with little to no technical acumen in sequencing and related microbiological workflows, as well as more advanced technical users operating within a mobile laboratory setting. Special emphasis will be placed on technologies that are portable and can be used in a field environment. Automated solutions for sample and library preparation are preferred but not required.
