THIS IS A SYNOPSIS OF PROPOSED CONTRACT ACTION.  THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION OR INVITATION FOR OFFERORS TO SUBMIT BIDS.  THIS NOTICE WILL BE POSTED FOR A MINIMUM OF 15 DAYS PRIOR TO POSTING OF THE SOLICITATION. 

The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) anticipates issuance of solicitation 15B40120B00000001 for the award of a firm-fixed-price construction contract for a project entitled Repair Boilers at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) Chicago.

MCC Chicago is located at 71 W. Van Buren St., Chicago, Illinois 60605.   

The following brief synopsis should not be considered inclusive of all work required to complete the project. The contractor shall supply all labor, materials, services, insurance, permits and equipment to carry out the work in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.  The project is to make repairs on three of the following type of boilers:

  • Superior Boilers Works “Osage” built in 1973.
  • Model: 3-5-1023
  • N’atl Board No.: 6731
  • Serial No.: 6731
  • Heating Surface: 1023 square feet
  • Shell Thickness: 7/16”
  • Head Thickness: 7/16”
  • Max Steam: 15 PSI
  • Max water pressure: 30 PSI
  • Steam Capacity: 7831 LBS/hour
  • Min Valve Capacity: 8184 LBS/hour BTU/hour

The performance period for the project will be 243 calendar days from issuance of the notice to proceed.  

Pursuant to Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 36.204, the estimated magnitude of the project lies between $250,000 and $500,000.  (NOTE: This range is one of 8 available ranges from FAR 36.204 and is not meant to imply that the project has necessarily been estimated/budgeted to the maximum of the selected range.  It merely conveys that the estimate/budget lies somewhere within that range.)

This is a 100 percent Small Business Set-Aside.

The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code applicable to this requirement is 238220 with a corresponding small business size standard of $16.5 million.

The solicitation will be available approximately on or about January 22, 2020.  The solicitation will be distributed solely through the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website at www.fbo.gov.  Hard copies of the solicitation will not be made available.  The website provides download instructions.
