About this opportunity

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting market research through a Request for Information due July 16, 2026, to identify qualified contractors capable of assessing, repairing, inspecting, testing, and certifying an out-of-service elevator at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower in Morrisville, North Carolina. This RFI does not constitute a commitment to issue a solicitation or guarantee consideration for a future procurement.

The elevator is currently inoperable due to inaccurate floor leveling and passenger entrapment incidents; a previous drive replacement failed to resolve the malfunction. The contractor must diagnose the root cause, perform all necessary repairs using provided labor, materials, equipment, and supervision, complete required testing and inspections, obtain a Permit to Operate certifying safe operation, and deliver a written inspection report identifying code deficiencies. The Government seeks restoration to safe, reliable operation capable of passing annual inspection and five-year load test requirements. The contractor must provide a minimum one-year warranty and recommend preventive maintenance and future upgrades.

Work is performed at 1000 Sawyer Circle, Morrisville, North Carolina, with a target completion period of three weeks, extendable for long-lead parts. Contractor qualifications include current North Carolina licensure for elevator inspections, service, and repairs; at least three years of continuous commercial elevator repair experience; and a permanent business address. The contractor must comply with ASME A17.1, International Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and North Carolina State Elevator Code. Site visits prior to proposal submission are strongly encouraged.
