About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research for a comprehensive maintenance agreement for approximately 100 pieces of scientific equipment manufactured by Thermo Electron North America. The solicitation seeks qualified contractors to provide full-service maintenance for complex scientific instruments including mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, pumps, chillers, autosamplers, and various specialized laboratory equipment. Key contract requirements include one preventive maintenance visit per year, unlimited service calls, on-site service within 72 hours, telephone support during business hours, and all necessary parts and software updates. Contractors must demonstrate capabilities through documentation showing technical expertise, ability to schedule qualified technicians, relevant maintenance experience, and access to required parts and loaner equipment. Interested companies must submit their response to carol.wood@nist.gov by March 6, 2025, at 3:30 PM Eastern Time.
The pre-solicitation notice indicates that if at least two qualified small businesses are identified, the subsequent competitive procurement will be set aside for small businesses under NAICS code 811219, with a small business size standard of $22.0 million. While no specific award value is mentioned, the scope covers maintenance for 100 pieces of high-precision scientific instruments across multiple categories. The Government's primary objective is to secure a service agreement that ensures rapid emergency repairs and consistent maintenance of critical research equipment. Contractors must provide technicians with at least two years of experience in maintaining the specified equipment types and demonstrate comprehensive understanding of Thermo Electron and third-party accessory maintenance requirements. After analyzing the market research responses, NIST may proceed with a competitive procurement and subsequent contract award.
