About this opportunity

The Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC) intends to award a sole-source service contract to Leica Microsystems Inc. for Premium Care maintenance of a Leica Confocal microscope by June 17, 2026. This is not a competitive procurement, though the government states it will consider all responses received.

The requirement covers a five-year period with a base year and four optional years. The Premium Care Service Plan includes unlimited service visits by Leica-trained field service engineers, unlimited replacement parts and components (excluding consumables and third-party parts), annual on-site planned maintenance visits, unlimited remote expert applications and technology support (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), biennial service visits, Biosafety Level 2 software updates, and a 10 percent discount on non-contract related services. The microscope serves as a critical data collection resource for Navy Expeditionary Medical Research across multiple projects.

NMRC justified sole-source acquisition under 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1) and FAR 6.302-1, determining that Leica Microsystems is the only responsible source capable of providing the required service due to proprietary parts and exclusive control over replacement components. The contract will be procured under FAR Part 12 Commercial Items. All contractors must be registered in SAM.gov with a valid Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI) to be eligible for award. Contracting Officer: Nataki S. Johnson. NAICS 334516, PSC L066.
