About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center issued a presolicitation notice for Outdoor Leadership and Team Building Expedition Training with a capability statement deadline of July 30, 2026, and announced a sole-source procurement intent to the National Outdoor Leadership School under FAR 12.102(a) authority. The Government will conduct the 10-day expedition training course in remote wilderness outside Lander, Wyoming, from September 8–17, 2026, for up to 16 astronaut candidates and assigned crew members, with performance at NASA Johnson Space Center. NASA seeks submissions of written capabilities and qualifications only—not quotes—to evaluate whether the Government should proceed competitively rather than sole source; the final decision to compete remains at the Government's discretion. The vendor must provide instructors qualified in extended remote wilderness expeditions, risk management, CPR and Wilderness First Responder certification, navigation, camping, backpacking, and leadership curriculum facilitation, with demonstrated understanding of NASA's objectives and ability to customize the course. Instructors must maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio and deliver comprehensive leadership instruction covering communication, group dynamics, and decision-making entirely in the wilderness setting. The vendor shall provide weather protection, camping gear, organizational items, and survival-hygiene supplies as specified. Submit capability statements by 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on July 30, 2026, to Cara Craft at cara.s.craft@nasa.gov. NAICS 611430; PSC AJ11.
