About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command has published a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for SIR-Sphere Y-90 Resin Microspheres supplies through the Medical Readiness Contracting Office-West, Fort Carson Bliss Contracting Branch. The agency intends to award a sole source contract to Sirtex Medical Inc. for specialized medical supplies to be used at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) at Fort Bliss, Texas. The contract will have a performance period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026, and falls under NAICS code 325412 (Pharmaceutical Preparation Manufacturing). Sirtex Medical Inc. is identified as the only company with FDA premarket approval for these specific microspheres used in treating hepatocellular carcinoma and metastatic colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver. The solicitation number is W81K00-26-Q-A032, and this notice serves as both an intent announcement and preparation for the final Justification and Approval document.
The primary objective of this sole source procurement is to secure FDA-approved Y-90 resin microspheres that are specifically indicated for treating liver cancers, with Sirtex Medical being the exclusive holder of the required FDA premarket approval. While this is not a competitive solicitation, the government will accept capability statements, proposals, or quotations from responsible sources within five days of the notice posting date (by August 30, 2025). Market research conducted through the Small Business Administration's Dynamic Small Business Search and Veterans Affairs Federal Supply Schedule confirmed no alternative vendors exist for these specialized supplies. All contractors interested in participating must demonstrate capability to provide the specific FDA-approved microspheres, though the government retains sole discretion in determining whether to proceed with the sole source award based on any responses received. The contracting office emphasizes this notice is for informational purposes and future consideration rather than immediate competitive procurement, with points of contact available for questions through MAJ Elizabeth St. Peter and Mr. Christopher Gregory.
