About this opportunity

The CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), intends to sole-source a firm-fixed-price purchase order to Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville LLC for preventative maintenance and calibration of laboratory centrifuges, with capability statements due by September 16, 2026.

The work involves visual and functional checks on rotor condition, imbalance indicators, lid locks, refrigeration performance (where applicable), and overall mechanical integrity. All calibration of key parameters—rotational speed, temperature, timing, and imbalance or brake testing—must comply with International Standard Organization (ISO) 17025 standards. Regular calibration is essential to ensure accuracy of rotational speed and temperature control functions, maintain reliability and reproducibility of experimental results, and reduce risks of sample loss, equipment strain, or mechanical failure.

The sole-source procurement is authorized under FAR 6.103-1(b) and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1) or 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1). The contractor is located at 275 Aiken Road, Asheville, North Carolina.

Interested vendors who believe they can meet these requirements are invited to submit written capability statements to Contracting Specialist Felipe Cardenas at tpp5@cdc.gov. The CDC will review all submitted capability and pricing information to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement; the government retains sole discretion over that decision. NAICS code 811210 applies.

Notice text

The purpose of this acquisition is to have Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD) centrifuges undergo preventative maintenance and calibration. Regular calibration of centrifuges is essential because it ensures that rotational speed, temperature control (when applicable), and timing functions remain accurate, which directly affects the reliability and reproducibility of experimental results. The vendor shall perform visual and functional checks for rotor condition, imbalance indicators, lid locks, refrigeration performance (where applicable), and overall mechanical integrity.  Key parameters will be calibrated according to International Standard Organization (ISO) 17025 standards.
