About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Sole Source a service agreement for the Zeiss LSM 800 Axio Observer 7 Confocal Microscope System to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC. This notice, posted on March 20, 2025, with a response deadline of April 4, 2025, outlines the agency's intention to award a contract to a single source under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b)(1). The CDC has determined that Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC is the only entity in the United States authorized to provide comprehensive service and support for ZEISS LSM 800 microscopes. The special notice is classified under the NAICS category of Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance and the PSC category of Maintenance/Repair/Rebuild of Laboratory Equipment.
The primary objective of this special notice is to inform potential contractors about the CDC's intent to sole source the microscope system service agreement and provide an opportunity for other interested parties to demonstrate their capabilities. Contractors wishing to express interest or capability must submit their responses via email to Cole Mullis, Contract Specialist, at ttu3@cdc.gov within fifteen (15) days of the notice's issuance. The government will consider all quotations or responses received during this period, but retains sole discretion in determining whether to compete the proposal. Eligibility is open to all potential contractors who believe they can provide comparable services, though the notice explicitly states that Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC is currently considered the only source capable of fulfilling the requirement. Any information received will typically be evaluated solely to determine the potential for a competitive procurement, and the government emphasizes that this notice is not a request for competitive quotations.
