About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole-source firm fixed price contract to Valley Fever Solutions, Inc. and the Valley Fever Center for Excellence (University of Arizona) for development, evaluation, and validation of diagnostic methods for coccidioidomycosis, with responses due July 29, 2026. This is a Total Small Business set-aside procurement.
The CDC's Mycotic Diseases Branch seeks diagnostic assay development leveraging the VFCE's existing biospecimen repository and clinical infrastructure. Market research confirmed the VFCE is the only identified source capable of meeting the requirement, based on over 30 years of institutional experience, specialized expertise in coccidioidomycosis, existing biospecimen repositories with patient specimens, IRB-approved protocols and patient recruitment infrastructure, access to endemic patient populations through Banner Health System clinical partnerships in Arizona, and combined BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory capabilities for CLIA validation. Alternative academic institutions, commercial laboratories, and research organizations were considered but deemed incapable of providing equivalent expertise and infrastructure.
The contract period runs September 30, 2026, through September 29, 2027, with an estimated value of $349,900 under FAR 13.106-1(b) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). All work is performed at the VFCE facility within the United States. The scope includes biospecimen repository expansion, serologic and PBMC-based assay development, CLIA-compliant validation, and quarterly reporting. Interested parties may submit proposals; however, the government's determination not to compete is solely within its discretion.
